Our leather styles are Faunus and Feral black. The sourcing of the leather is organized with particular care through small-scale, non-industrial channels.
The leather for Faunus comes from free-roaming deer in Germany – a by-product of hunting done to help regulate wildlife populations. The aim is to use the entire animal respectfully, rather than letting this valuable material go to waste. The hunting is subject to strict nature and animal protection laws. For the Faunus, the leather is vegetable-tanned into a supple upper that is smooth on the inside and rough-textured on the outside.
We source the leather for the new Feral black from small family-run farms in Thailand with cattle. With these very small herds ranging from about 1 to 100 head of cattle per farm, the income generated goes directly to the local families and communities.
The material for Feral is processed into a supple and durable nubuck leather. It is tanned at a facility rated LWG Gold by the Leather Working Group. LWG-certified facilities meet strict requirements regarding leather processing, particularly in the areas of chemical management, water consumption, and energy use.
In addition, every Wildling product complies with the EU REACH Regulation – one of the world’s strictest sets of guidelines for the protection of people and the environment.
